Why Do Species Go Extinct?

Why do species go extinct?” and “How fast does it happen?” Once armed with that information, one might do something about it.

WHICH WOULD YOU SAY ARE, AT THIS MOMENT, THE MOST ENDANGERED OF THE WORLD’S CREATURES?

There are too many to name. Something like 12 percent of all birds, a third of all amphibians and, likely, similarly large numbers of plants are in serious danger. What’s more, about 1 percent of all species on the planet are in such trouble that if we don’t do the right things immediately they will be gone in a decade.

The river dolphin in China was declared extinct just last year. Another small dolphin in the Sea of Cortez is in immediate danger.

WHAT CAN ONE PERSON DO TO STOP EXTINCTIONS?

One of the things the people have done is start an NGO — a nongovernmental organization — called SavingSpecies.org.

One of the things we know is that many endangered animals live over large areas. But their populations become fragmented because of farming and development. The remaining creatures can’t find a date on a Saturday night. Sopeople have been trying to buy up degraded land around their broken environments and try to create land corridors for the wildlife.

HAVE YOU HAD ANY SUCCESSES YET?

Yes. On the Atlantic Coast of Brazil, people have been trying to help save the golden lion tamarin, an endangered primate about the size of a house cat. Last year, with the involvement of local conservationist groups, people helped purchase about 270 acres of cattle pasture that separated two patches of their habitat. This former pasture is now being replanted with trees. The two areas will soon be bridged, and it will be possible for lonely hearts to meet members of the opposite sex and go forth and multiply.

The second earthquake in haiti.

A second strong earthquake hit Haiti today, waking people from their beds and sending others running into the streets in panic.

The quake measured 6.1, and hit a country already ravaged by an earthquake eight days ago.

It came amid rising frustration from one aid agency about the delay in getting lifesaving supplies into Haiti, with doctors saying they are having to buy their own saws to carry out amputations.

The quake was centred 26 miles north-west of Jacmel, and the US Geological Survey said it struck at a depth of 13.7 miles.

The tremor caused panic. It was not immediately possible to assess what additional damage the new quake may have caused.

Last week's huge quake killed an estimated 200,000 people in Haiti, left 250,000 injured and made 1.5 million people homeless. A big international aid effort has been launched, but is struggling with overwhelming logistical problems.

That everything is solved and that very soon they are better. Mood ...

End of El Bulli: closes forever

Top of the world restaurant El Bulli to close for good despite having a waiting list of 3,000 people.

The best chef Ferran Adrià last month announced plans to close the restaurant in the Costa Brava in Spain for two years, saying he needed a rest.

But now he has decided to close, will not have the famous dishes such as Parmesan cheese and marshmallows trout egg tempura, permanently.
Instead of reopening the restaurant business, is to become a nonprofit foundation, Adria said.

Ferran Adrià is the world's best restaurant closed, El Bulli,
The measure was prompted after protests over its decision last month to close El Bulli for two years, with many arguing that it was part of Spanish culture and could not go.

The shock news of some food lovers are sure to tip for bookings before El Bulli, located in northeastern coastal Catalan town of Roses, closes in 2012.
Bookings have already closed for the year 2010, with 3,000 people willing to wait for the fork in € 200 per head for Adria's creations.
El Bulli was named best restaurant in the world for the fourth consecutive year last April at the World's Top 50 S. Pellegrino Restaurant 2009 compiled by Restaurant Magazine.

For me it's a shame, since he had a reservation and to cancel.

HAITÍ

PORT-AU-PRINCE

Haiti-dazed survivors wandering past corpses in streets littered with debris Wednesday, mourning their loved ones and rescuers desperately searched collapsed buildings as the fear that increased the death toll from the devastating earthquake in Haiti could reach the tens of thousands.

The first cargo planes carrying food, water, medical supplies, shelter and dogs went to the poorest nation, a day after the magnitude-7 earthquake.

The quake toppled buildings, large and small.

Hospitals, schools and the main prison collapsed.

Police officers turned their trucks in ambulances to carry the wounded.

Other survivors carried the injured to hospitals in wheelbarrows and on stretchers door fashion.

Crep that this only be solved by giving everything it takes and without look for what is lost economically.

The thing goes to worse

As we can see in the television news, each day there are many but dead, murders, the government doesn't do anything by improving, the people no longer are interested for the things that really they need, or that really are the most important. All goes to worse, but we don't note him, because we are in a company economically speaking good.

What I mean with this, what really I think, he is that the world company each day goes to worse, instead of treating themes as the peace, like the illnesses or poverty, spend the millions of mony in investment in weapons.

This well, that each one have its diversion and its entertainment, but at times does lack to reflect if all what happens has a motive, that if the life has a purpose or felt for us, if all is coincidence.
