Australia

GEOGRAPHY

The continent of Australia is equal in area to the US.

The western half of the continent is occupied by a desert plateau.

The desert plateau rises into barren, rolling hills near the west coast.

The Great Barrier Reef, extending about 2,000 km

The Great Barrier Reef lies along the northeast coast.

The island of Tasmania 67,800 km is off the southeast coast.

GOVERNMENT

The system is governed by the Democracy .

Symbolic executive power is vested in the British monarch.

The British monarch is Elisabeth II.

The British monarch is represented throughout Australia by the governor-general.

HISTORY

The first inhabitants of Australia were the aborigines.

Today about 350,000 Aborigines live in Australia.

Dutch, Portuguese and Spanish ships sighted Australia in the 17th century.

Six colonies: New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and Queensland.

Several gold rush attracted settlers, as well as the extraction of other minerals.

The six colonies became federated states and established CONSTITUTION (1901).

Australia became known for its liberal legislation: free education, the secret ballot, women's suffrage…

The most populous and vital Australian cities include: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide

AUSTRALIAN CLIMATE

The climate of Australia includes all the climatic stations and meet all the host-seeking in different areas.

There are deserts, savannas, forests, valleys, arid and humid ...

LANGUAGE IN-USE AT AUSTRALIA

Australia aborigines speak in English but not in a typical traditional way.

The colloquial Australian-English uses abbreviations like:

- Aussie for Australian

- Brolly for umbrella

- Chook for chicken

- Damper for bread,

- Ta for thank you and so on.

AUSTRALIAN CURRENCY

Australian dollar called AUD is the currency in this country.

Australia is a great tourist destination to visit and enjoy your holiday.

WILDLIFE

There are about 280 species of mammals, 800 birds, 300 lizards, 140 of the snake and two crocodiles.

In mammals, almost half are marsupials.

The best known animals are the kangaroo, koala, platypus, koala and the spiny anteater.

The isolation allowed the Australian continent to become a sanctuary for marsupials -mammals that nurse their young in pouches.

Australia has 20,000 species of plants such as cycads and palm grass, wildflowers and bright as the Waratah, Sturt's Desert Pea, flower cones of Banksia trees and the red kangaroo paw and green.

The continent has 700 species of acacia, and 1,200 species of the family Myrtaceae, including Eucalyptus trees or gums.

Some species of embracing the land as bonsai, while others go to heaven and samples of more than 45,72 m have been recorded.

MY OPINION

Iban, pep and I Hempseed done a good oral presentation, for few of time can't be, but even so we did pretty well.

I have to improve in the expression, it's difficult to do well because English isn't my native language.
